Renaissance Phuket Resort & Spa Villa Review

Quick Summary:

Close to the airport, far from Patong Beach & Phuket City, however it a great place with an awesome staff at a near perfect location.

Long Report:

The Renaissance Phuket Resort and Spa is currently a Cat6 Marriott property and stuns brightly. The check-in area is open, well staffed and has a great view. As soon as we arrived, our luggage was taken and our names were asked. We took a seat when a staff member brought over cold towels and beverages, followed by the Manager to check us in.

Renaissance tends to amaze based on details, for example the (R) pressed into the toilet paper. The cost and effort to do that are minimal but help to set the property apart.

The service is personalized, everytime you call anywhere, if possible the staff use your name and quickly learn your name if you interact with them.

We love everything about our Villa except for the temperature controls, we received a daily snack in the evenings along with turn down service which was appreciated.

We had dinner at Takieng and lunch at Sandbox, the food at both were amazing, the wine list at Takieng is also hundreds of choices long.

As a runner I appreciated the location, I was able to get in safe long runs on the road, simply by leaving the resort and heading to the right I was on an abandoned paved road I could loop. I was also able to run on the beach and in a wooded area between resorts.

My wife is already planning our next trip to return.

I had the ability to briefly explore the nearby JW Marriott Resort, and while it may have more options for dining (all of which you can access on a shuttle from the Ren) I would not stay there.

I wish I had taken pictures of the breakfast. Incredibly large breakfast, everything from cooked to order eggs and a custom juice station to more standard breakfast fare (Western and Dim Sum), there was also a wide variety of cold cuts, cheese, bread and drinks you could grab and go with.

Waves/current/surf were rough the entire time we were there and we could only go in the water a bit. The waves were crashing with enough force to knock people over. It is also not a party resort or near the party communities. This was a positive for us but others may not like the long drive to Patong or Phuket City.

The temperature in the Villas will not go below 21c (~70F) and would then bounce back to 23.8c (~75F), far too warm for me to sleep. I was told that as a result of my feedback they would look to lower the threshold to 19c and I was told the standard rooms get far colder.
